Ottumwa's pitch to Mumford and Sons shows off community cooperation
The Ottumwa community literally "can't wait" for the chance for a popular band to make a stop in the Heartland.
The Bridge View Center and VenuWorks put together a music video featuring all aspects of Ottumwa and Wapello County -- Ottumwa High School, Indian Hills Community College, the Gothic House, Cardinal School District and Ottumwa city leaders. The video changes the words to Mumford and Sons' "I Can't Wait" to "We Can't Wait" and is not only a pitch to the band to perform in Ottumwa, but can also be used to show all the community has to offer.
"We can literally attract whether it's an economic development, a convention, a meeting, even a new recruit as far as a business or family to Ottumwa," said Larry Gawronski, Executive Director of the Bridge View Center. "I think the other thing was it shows that when we put our minds to something together, it can become a reality and it's great."
Ottumwa first lobbied for the Mumford and Sons annual summer concert to be held in Ottumwa in 2012, but the concert went to Dixon, Illinois. This time, the pitch is being sent directly to the band and its management. The music video has been sent to Mumford and Sons through three care package sent to their promoter, US and home manager in the United Kingdom. From here, it's all about watching the video go viral and waiting to see if it catches the attention of the band.
"I've heard from the promoter already and he said, 'this is great'," Gawronski said. "He said, 'you guys got the entire town involved and it's not like you just talked about it - they're in it!'"
