Ottumwa's pro balloon race finishes strong yet again

Ottumwa's 40th annual Pro Balloon Races took place at the Greater Ottumwa Park.

Ottumwa's 40th annual Pro Balloon Race wrapped up Sunday morning.

Pilots took off in the hot air balloons and attendees got to enjoy a pancake breakfast at the Jimmy Jones Shelter in the Greater Ottumwa Park. Once the race was over, awards were given out to the top three pilots at the AmericInn Hotel.

First place went to Jason Loving. Loving told KTVO Sunday morning he has been attending the pro balloon races for a while now, but this year was only his second time racing in it. He says he still can't believe he won.

"It's an experience, like I said, it hasn't sank in yet that my childhood dream just came true. so, it's kind of, it's starting to get there though," Loving said.

Prior to racing, Loving says he used to assist pilots at the pro balloon races until 2013, which is when he bought his first balloon.
