Ottumwa's Securing a Better Baseball Future holds first-annual tailgate fundraiser
Securing a Better Baseball Future held its first-annual tailgate party fundraiser Saturday night at the Ottumwa National Guard Armory.
The tailgate-themed party coincided with Sunday's big game.
Ticket sales contributed to Securing a Better Baseball Future's current major project--building a concession stand at the Ottumwa Babe Ruth Park.
Despite the winter weather, many Ottumwans showed up early to support the cause.
"Well, with the cold weather going on, pre-ticket sales were really good," said SBBF board member Joe Schulz. "And with the band not even starting until 8 p.m., we're not exactly a full house. We are getting there. We're real excited about the amount of people here already."
Along with a performance from the Jefferson County Green Band, guests were also treated to an-all-you-can-eat food spread.
A TV and a pair of sunglasses were raffled off, and hourly cash prizes were distributed.
SBBF is looking forward to growing the event and making it a yearly affair.
