The Ottumwa City Council unanimously approved the purchase of a new just over $1 million fire truck for the Ottumwa Fire Department Tuesday evening.
This new truck will make saving lives an even easier and faster process. The aerial apparatus will be 100 feet in length and be able to reach the highest points in Ottumwa.
The contracts will be signed for the fire truck on Thursday. Over the next nine to 12 months, the fire truck will be built to be able to fit into the station.
â??During that time we're going to do some sight inspections. Some of the staff will take their spec books with them and make sure the specs are being met and then about a month before the completion they'll do a final inspection and make sure that everything has been met. Then the truck will arrive here. They'll do some in-house training for three to five days,â?? said Joe Helfenberger, Ottumwa City Administrator.
After the training, the fire truck will then be put into service.
