Overnight storms close Heartland roads

Severe thunderstorms and flash floods hit the area Tuesday night.

Those storms showered some parts of the Heartland with close to five inches or rain. Portions of State Highway 149 Southwest of Novinger were closed due to high water.

Vehicles were forced to turn around in order to avoid the potentially dangerous water over the roads, which were covered heavily by water that had yet to recede. Road crews also spent the morning clearing numerous roadways of fallen tree limbs.

Overnight, Kirksville Police and Fire Crews had to rescue a number of motorists stranded due to a flooded Baltimore Street.

No major injuries were reported.
