People in Ottumwa take a Walk on Art Street

Spectators watch belly dancers at Walk on Art Street

Many people in the City of Bridges headed over to Walk on Art Street in Central Park.

Nearly 30 artists had their work on display for people to see and buy as well. The art includes a diverse selection, ranging from woodwork, to handmade jewelry, to abstract paintings and even Native American art. Entertainment included belly dancers, African drummers and Celtic music, and most of the artists are from Wapello County. Plenty of activity stations were set up for the kids to make artistic masterpieces of their own. Main Street Ottumwa sponsors the event every year.

â??It's great to be part of something a whole family can enjoy and has a lot of expressions of art, you know, music and dance, to all the stuff that's being sold here, so it's pretty cool,â?? Bob Untiedt, Main Street Ottumwa executive director, said.

Untiedt estimates that tens of thousands of dollars are raised for Ottumwa's economic development each year because of Walk on Art Street. Even with the heat, the event had a steady flow of traffic all day long.
