People with special needs showing off their artistic skills
The Kirksville Regional Office of The Missouri State of Mental Health held the 11th annual the "Celebrating The Artist In You" Reception and Art Show at The Moose Lodge in Kirksville early Tuesday evening.
The show featured artwork by 162 individuals who have developmental disabilities or recovering from alcohol and drug abuse.
Organizers say the best part of this event is seeing the different pieces these individuals used to help express themselves and their feelings.
"II handle every single piece, so I get to really look at them individually. They all come here and come together. The abilities come out of these artists' work is just fabulous, and it really helps you to see the ability vs. The disability in the person," said Event Chair Sue Gibson.
The event included local entertainment of singers and dancers.
About 250 people came out making it one of the largest turnouts for the event.
The art show will be returning next year.
