Pilcher's second murder trial won't be moved

Robert Pilcher's first trial ended in a hung jury in January.

The retrial of an Iowa man accused of killing a 17-year-old girl 40 years ago will not be moved from Ottumwa.

Robert Pilcher's first trial ended in a hung jury in January. Pilcher had been charged with killing Mary Jayne Jones in April 1974 at a farmhouse about seven miles from Ottumwa. He was arrested in November 2012 after DNA evidence tied him to the scene of Jones' death.

Prosecutors had sought a change of venue. Defense attorneys argued against moving the retrial from Wapello County.

On Tuesday, Judge Richard Meadows denied the prosecution's request. At this time, the retrial is scheduled for September.(The Associated Press contributed to this story)Previous stories...Mistrial declared in 1974 murder case
