UPDATE: KTVO has learned new details about the sexual exploitation case that led to the arrests of nine southeast Iowa men.

The case is one that primarily involved sexting between a 13-year-old Bloomfield girl and the nine suspects.

Bloomfield Police Chief Shawn Armstrong told KTVO the alleged victim and most of the suspects exchanged nude pictures of themselves back and forth via social media.

Armstrong said the girl did not misrepresent her age to the men, claiming she was older than she was. If that was the case, he said charges likely would not have been filed against the suspects.

He said, according to the transcripts of online converstations between the girl and the men, she told them that she was 13 years old.

Armstrong told us investigators don't believe there was any physical contact of any kind that took place between the alleged victim and the men.

He said there were requests to meet up and times discussed, but none of those meetings ever occurred.

The chief said he could not reveal if the girl or the suspects initiated the online conversations.

Armstrong told KTVO the case is still under investigation, and he expects more arrests to be made.

Some of those additional suspects may be from out of state.

The Bloomfield Police Department will notify KTVO if any more arrests are made in the case.

As of Friday afternoon, all nine suspects remained in custody at the Davis County Jail in Bloomfield.
