Postal worker trapped in rollover accident

Emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to remove the postal worker.

A U.S. Post Office worker was trapped in her vehicle following a rollover accident while delivering mail in rural Wapello County.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 194th Avenue and Copperhead Road near Blakesburg.

Emergency crews say the letter carrier lost control on the loose gravel before her truck rolled into the ditch.

The driver was conscious the entire time, and she called the Ottumwa Post Office before 911 was contacted.

Emergency responders used the Jaws of LIfe to cut the top off of the truck and free the driver.

The driver was taken to Ottumwa Regional Health Center as a precaution. The injuries are not believed to be serious.

But the mail never stops, not even for an automobile accident.

A substitute letter carrier was called in to finish deliveries on the remainder of the route.
