Poweshiek County sheriff's clerk accused of embezzlement
POWESHIEK COUNTY, IOWA —
A former clerk at the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office in Iowa is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the sheriff's office.
Megan Lynne Strong was charged Tuesday morning with second degree theft, a Class D felony.
The state auditor's office says during a special investigation they found nearly $7,000 of undeposited collections.
Strong has admitted to stealing more than $4,000 in cash receipts from the sheriff's office.
The office's audit report shows strong misappropriated funds sometime between Jan. 1, 2015 and Feb. 10, 2017 while employed at the sheriff's office.
The Iowa Attorney General's Office has been asked to assist with the prosecution in this case.
Strong was released from custody Tuesday.
