Program to help keep New Year’s resolutions

Among top New Year's resolutions, getting in shape and having a healthy lifestyle.

As many begin to embark on these resolutions, the Adair County YMCA hopes to kick the year off on the right foot.

'We have our ‘Get Fit Challenge,’” said Adair County YMCA Program Director Luke Callahan.

The program is an eight-week challenge measuring the percentage of participants' weight loss.

"We weigh in every week, and the winner of the weight loss challenge based on that percentage wins a one-year membership to the YMCA," Callahan said.

Callahan calls it a self-motivating challenge, but he said there are activities for every age in the dual-level building.

"We play a lot of pickle ball for us older people," said YMCA member Pat Martens.

Five mornings a week you can find Martens playing the emerging sport.

"It's a really great sport, and a really great way to stay in shape," Marten said.

Exercise is only one component to starting a healthy lifestyle. The second, a healthy diet.
