More changes are coming to Highway 63. If you ever traveled on U.S. 63 just south of Kirksville, you may have noticed that you have to travel a bit before you can make a turnaround and that has led to some concerns. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission is building a new median opening. Transportation Project Manager Keith Killen said there was some concern from emergency personnel that they would be unable to get to an emergency on the fly over quickly enough and so they asked MoDOT to build an emergency crossover. At the same time, some of the businesses just south of there asked for a median opening for their customers. Killen said this is a good change. â??This will be a great project for emergency crews allowing them access to the flyover quicker and it will be a minor disruption in traffic during the construction,â?? he said.
The new turning lane will cost $136,882.90. The intersection improvements are part of a cost share with the owners of Admire Evergreen. Construction is scheduled to begin next month.
