Raccoon turns out the lights

Nearly 2,000 Kirksville residents were without power early Friday morning.

Officials at Ameren Missouri tell KTVO the outage affected just under 2,000 cutomers. Nearly 1,000 of those were back on line within minutes. The remainder of those affected were without power for nearly an hour and a half.

Ameren says a raccoon got into a transformer, causing the outage. The outage affected mainly residents in the northeast and northwest parts of town.
