Ragbrai gears up for bike stop in Oskaloosa
The Ragbrai Committee in Oskaloosa is gearing up for the Des Moines Registerâ??s 41st annual Bicycle Ride Across Iowa.
This July more than 10,000 cyclists will take off from Council Bluffs, make a stop at the state capital and eventually ride through Oskaloosa. On April 25, a town-hall meeting will be held in Oskaloosa where the cityâ??s planning committee will decide on a t-shirt, logo and theme.
â??It takes a lot of planning, a lot of volunteers, which we are very fortunate to have in our community, and we know weâ??ll be able to put on a real good show for them, and theyâ??ll be happy to come here.â?? Executive Director Jon Sullivan said.
Sullivan said three local bands will be performing at the stop. The rest of the details will be planned at the town-hall meeting including choosing the place for people to camp out and/or park their RVs. Bikes will stream through Oskaloosa on July 25th. The Register's Bike Ride is the worldâ??s oldest and longest tour. It kicks off in Council Bluffs July 21st and ends 406.6 miles later in Fort Madison July 27.
