Ragbrai planning going strong in Fairfield
With Ragbrai just over two months away, the Fairfield Ragbrai planning committee is busy making sure everything is ready for the expected 10,000 tourists that will be making their way through the town.
Friday morning, the committee met with local vendors and merchants to make them aware of rules and regulations.
Because of a city ordinance passed, merchants on the square cannot use sidewalk space that is outside of their store if they do not usually use it.
A 25x25 vendor space can be purchased for $600 for those that wish to sell their product during Ragbrai.
The main fundraiser for Ragbrai are from T-shirt sales. But, itâ??s more than just a shirt; itâ??s a coupon, as well!
â??So on special Ragbrai Fridays, if you wear this shirt into specific vendors, Hy-Vee, some of the vendors around town, the merchants around town, you will receive discounts. For example, Hy-Vee is going to give you 25 cents on your fuel saver card, Adeles is going to give you 10% off your purchase. Some of the other locations, some of the restaurants are going to give you free desserts with a purchase, some will give you free soda with a purchase,â?? said Terry Baker, Ragbrai Planning Committee.
Baker said there is a huge budget that has to be covered that included extra police force, entertainment and more.
