The rain didnâ??t stop the Special Olympics Torch from making its way through the Heartland Tuesday morning, but it did change the route.
Usually, the run starts north of Kirksville and makes its way through the downtown square, then continues south, but because of the rain, the run started and ended at the square.
Over a dozen runners from local law enforcement agencies including officers from the Kirksville Police Department and deputies from the Adair County Sheriff's office, along with some Special Olympic athletes participated in the Tuesday morning run.
The run benefits Special Olympics Missouri and the torch will be used for the stateâ??s summer games opening ceremonies in Columbia on Thursday.
This is an annual event local law enforcement takes part in and organizers say it is just one of the ways they are able to show support for Special Olympics Missouri.
