Recycling pilot program underway

The Ottumwa/Wapello Recycling Center is running a pilot project to determine the feasibility and customer desire to use a larger recycling container.
The pilot study is underway with over 50 households in a targeted recycling route utilizing 35-gallon wheeled recycling carts. Administrators hope that the study will show an increase in recycling by providing a larger cart.
In January 2014, the Ottumwa/Wapello Recycling Center will make a limited number of the blue 35-gallon wheeled recycling carts available to households in Ottumwa that feel they would benefit from using the cart.
Participating homeowners are required to sign an agreement that they will follow the instructions for proper use.
The carts remain the property of the Solid Waste Commission and in the event that the program is terminated, customers would be required to turn the carts back in.
Quantities of the new carts are limited; there is a limit of one per interested household while supplies last.
Recycling customers can sign up to receive one of the wheeled recycling carts by contacting the Ottumwa/Wapello Recycling Center at (641)-683-0685.
