Relay for Life festivities carry-on indoors

Jefferson County's Relay for Life event moved indoors to Fairfield Middle School due to rain.

Rain caused many sporting and outdoor events to get canceled Saturday, but not Relay for Life in Jefferson County.

Organizers did move the event indoors instead of the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, however due to the less than ideal weather conditions. 24 teams came out to support the fight against cancer. Participants enjoyed live-entertainment, food, a silent and live auction and games throughout the day. Kortney Heald has been the American Cancer Societyâ??s Relay for Life Chairman in Jefferson County for the past three years.

â??My hope is that in doing this that one day we will be able to celebrate more birthdays, but also perhaps that maybe my grandkids won't have to hear the words 'you have cancer,'" Heald said.

Relay for Life in Jefferson County raised over $60,000 so far this year. All the proceeds go to cancer patients and research to finding a cure.
