Cancer affects over 1.5 million Americans every year, that's why several local survivors gathered to celebrate their victory over the disease Saturday afternoon.
The survivors and their caregivers enjoyed a hearty home cooked buffet that was prepared by area Relay for Life volunteers.
Most of the survivors are now cancer free, but still very dedicated to finding a cure for future generations.
â??You know, it's a chance to get together with people and fight back against this disease, you know, everybody is touched by this disease one way or another whether it be yourself or a family member or a friend, so you know, it helps them to be able to fight back a little bit and to work towards a cure,â?? said Tom Johnson, a survivor and Co-Chair of the Adair County Relay for Life.
Saturdayâ??s lunch is just one of many events meant to gear the community up for the actual relay which will take place Saturday April 12th from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Johnson says if youâ??re looking to get involved itâ??s not too late. Many teams are still holding fundraising events and anyone is welcome to register to participate in the relay.
