Relay for life walked through the Heartland today to raise money for Cancer research.
The first lap of the walk was done by cancer survivors as their loved ones cheered them on from the sidewalks.
Kayla Schmeili fought and beat brain cancer three times in her teen years and she gave an inspirational speech to the crowd.
â??Itâ??s so important to fight, and you just have to be brave. God sometimes puts these things into your life and itâ??s what you make of it,â?? said Schmeili.
All proceeds from the relay go to the American Cancer Society, and so far over seven thousand dollars was raised from this event.
At nightfall a candle lighting ceremony was held to remember those who have lost their battles with cancer.
