A northeast Missouri restaurant took matters into its own hands to create a Family Valentine's Day.

For the first time, Fort Chariton, a restaurant located in Yarrow southwest of Kirksville, held a Family Valentine's Day event serving free ice cream to all of their customers.

Fort Chariton owner Angela Schultz says during this time of year, the restaurant receives reservation requests from couples and parents wanting to enjoy Valentine's Day with their children.

Schultz says that was reason enough to create a Family Valentine's Day event the Sunday before Valentine's Day.

“As we started planning for our Valentines on Wednesday, we had couples making reservations, but we do have a lot of families that come down here with their children."

The ice cream was donated by Central Dairy Ice Cream.

If you missed getting ice cream on February 11, the restaurant will again be serving free ice cream on February 18.

Schultz hopes to turn Family Valentine's Day into an annual event.
