Work on re-construction of Milner St. from Mary St. to the Jefferson drainage ditch has officially begun.
This was made possible through the city of Ottumwaâ??s Capital Improvement Program.
Work has begun on pavement removal. There will be underground work as far as utility replacement with water lines and sewer lines before a brand new street is repaved over the top.
While construction is going on, drivers will need to use an alternate route.
â??There is a marked detour setup going around. I know in this neck of the woods with Jefferson drainage ditch, sometimes finding the spot with the right bridge to go across can be challenging. So just stick with the marked detour and you should get to where you need to go fine,â?? said Tom Rodgers, Ottumwa Public Information Officer.
Rodgers said the street should be complete in a month depending on the weather. He added for drivers to be patient and keep an eye out for construction workers.
