You love to cook BBQ? Well this story is for you.
The North Star Rotary Club in Kirksville is now looking for local teams to cook BBQ. It's all part of the club's new Missouri North Star BBQ Championship event.
The event is taking place August 15th-16th at the NEMO Fairgrounds.
Everyone in the community is invited to attend to help judge and find out who has the best BBQ around.
"The big event will be on Friday, August 15. We'll have our local competitors out there and teams to figure out who is the People's Choice Award winner. We ask everyone in the community to come out. For $5 a ticket, you get your opportunity to sample all the BBQ that our local competitors put together and also vote for that choice award winner," said North Star Rotary Member Zac Burden.
The public event will open at 6:00 PM. Entrance price also includes enjoying entertainment on stage. Local vendors will also be on hand.
On Saturday, August 16th professional teams from around the country will be competing. All for a hope to win a coveted spot at the 2014 Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational BBQ. The event is state-sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society.
Proceeds raised from the event will go towards club projects. North Star Rotary is the newest civic organization in Kirksville. Chartered in June 2013, it is also the third Rotary Club in the city. The club membership tends to be made of young professionals and meets Tuesday evenings at 5:15 in The Wooden Nickel. North Star is committed to local service work and Rotary global initiatives.
Team applications are due by Friday August 1st.
