Rubel campaigns for Iowa State Senate
Democratic Candidate Tom Rubel made a stop in Ottumwa Thursday to campaign for a spot in the Iowa State Senate.
Rubel hosted a meet and great from 5 to 7 p.m. at Appanoose Rapids.
He currently serves as the Executive Dean of Regional Economic Development at Indian Hills Community College.
Rubel says his leadership in the community makes him the best candidate for Senate District 41.
â??While I respect people that have been active as politicians I don't know that is what I would label myself to be,â?? Rubel said. â??I've been 43 years of public service and a vast majority of those have been in leadership positions, so i consider myself a leader, a networker and a people person that's a listener and wants to do what's right."
Rubel is passionate about economic development and increasing financial support for mental health services.
Supervisor Steve Siegel kicked off his campaign for the democratic primary in September.
Both Rubel and Siegel are vying to run against the current first-term republican State Senator Mark Chelgren.
The next general election will be held on Nov. 4.
