While thousands were out Black Friday shopping, volunteers and members of the Salvation Army were busy ringing bells outside of the stores.
The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign has officially kicked off with the start of the holiday season. In the Kirksville area, bell ringers can be found outside of Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, Westlake Hardware and JCPenney. Donations collected at these locations will benefit people in the Kirksville area.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, all you have to do is contact the Salvation Army in Kirksville at (660) 665-7885.
"We're looking at as of right now, about 60% of our annual Kettle Campaign being volunteers. We're hoping that we can possibly even make that 100% and the more people we have volunteer means the less people we have to pay, meaning more money that we can use to help others," said Lieutenant Brian Bump of the Kirksville Salvation Army.
Red kettles will be outside of store fronts until December 24.
