Scavenger hunt event will support 36th Annual Ottumwa Pro Balloon Races

It's not quite summertime yet, but folks in Ottumwa are already looking towards the 36th Annual Ottumwa Pro Balloon Races, which will be held this June.

The Pro Balloon Races is the only hot air balloon event in Iowa that doesn't charge admission, so the event is only possible through great sponsors and donations.

This year, a first-ever fundraiser will be held to get some extra funding. The Cannonball Balloon Road Rally is Saturday, April 20 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Beach Ottumwa. Teams of two or more will make ten stops around town in a scavenger hunt, participating in balloon-related challenges. The event will conclude with dinner and a 50/50 raffle at Courtside Bar and Grill.

Proceeds from the event will go towards buying a sound system for the Pro Balloon Races.

"We started a sub-committee and started looking at different ways to have fun, but do a fundraiser and get lots of different people involved," said Holly Dommer, Co-Chair of the Ottumwa Pro Balloon Races. "And the other part of this is, if you don't want to go on the scavenger hunt, you can come to Courtside, pay $10, you still get dinner, a great dinner, and a little bit still goes to a great cause."

Participants have until Wednesday, April 17 to register in order to get a $20 ticket. After Wednesday, tickets per person will be $30. Eating dinner at Courtside after the scavenger hunt is $10 a person.

You can register for the event before it starts on Saturday, but Dommer asks that you arrive at the Beach Ottumwa around 4 p.m. to allow time for registration.
