Kirksville Primary School is holding its annual book drive. The school's Parent Teacher Association is holding a fundraiser in conjunction with the book drive to provide books for at least one student in all 30 Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms.

The PTA has put a boot in the library, requesting donations from students, their family and the Kirksville community.

PTA co-chair for the event Christian Potter is running the fundraiser for the first time.

"In the long-run, if we are able to get a kid to read any book, I don't care what it is ... it helps with their development," Potter said.

Kirksville Primary School teacher Lacy Snider said this fundraiser is important because Kirksville does not have any bookstores.

"For us to be able to have extra money to purchase books for kids to put them in their hands -- without this support, we wouldn't have as much in the classrooms for these kids to read," Snider said.

Members outside the community are able to donate. To find out how by contact the school at (660) 665-5691.

The fundraiser ends Friday, September 15.
