Get the bookbag packed and lay out the new outfit.
Students across the Heartland will be starting back to school this week. It was a wet and cloudy first day for Kirksville kids on Tuesday.
Things went smoothly at Kirksville High School with buses and students arriving in time for the 8:00 a.m. bell. Administrators are ready to begin and are looking forward to what the new year may bring.
"You can sense the energy and excitement, or maybe that's anxiety. Maybe it's a combination of all three," said Kirksville Senior High Principal Randy Mikel. "We're just excited to have the kids back. Teachers seem energized and we're off and running."
Students in Ottumwa are getting ready as well. Their first day of school will be Wednesday, August 20.
