Scotland County Hospital receives new state-of-the-art equipment

The Scotland County Hospital Surgery Center has new state-of-the-art equipment.

The Pentax i-Scan Image Enhancement is the industry's highest resolution imaging technology for providing a flexible endoscopy. The equipment allows physicians to see patients' gastrointestinal tracts in high definition detail. That will provide improved identification of potentially cancerous lesions in patients.

Colon cancer is the third most diagnosed cancer in both men and women in the United States. However, it's one of the most preventable and curable types of cancer.

"We now know that if we find colon cancer in its earliest stages, the five year survival rate is well over 90 percent. So it is important to find this disease early. It's very curable," said Lisa Rollison, D.O. a General Surgeon at Scotland County Hospital.

People over 50 years old are encouraged to have a colonoscopy screening every 10 years. Doctors at Scotland County Hospital stress the importance of making patients feel comfortable when doing screenings.
