Search warrant executed at Ottumwa residence yields more than police bargained for

Monday night the Ottumwa Police Department and the Southeast Inter-Agency Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at 1214 North Adams St. at Antonio DeJesus Echeverriaâ??s residence.

The search warrant was based on weapons but when officials got there, they found several marijuana plants and a marijuana grow operation.

â??It's pretty common for us to come in on a search warrant on one thing and then find drugs and other things, evidence of crime and we end up doing another search warrant. The drug task force does this regularly. The Ottumwa PD doesn't do this as much. Normally we get the information on the drugs, turn it out to the Task Force and they handle it from there,â?? said Lt. Tom McAndrew, Investigations Unit and Drug Task Force.

Neighbors told KTVO that the neighborhood used to be a quiet one before the residents of 1214 N. Adams St. moved in a couple of years ago.

112 grams of meth, two hand guns and ammunition were also found along with the marijuana. No arrests have been made at this time.
