Seim gets 50 years for murder

Brandon Seim

A murder conviction lands an Ottumwa man in jail for decades.

Court records show that on Monday, 21-year-old Brandon Joseph Christopher Seim was sentenced to 50 years.

Seim had pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder in February.

As part of the plea, he acknowledged stabbing Andy Madren to death in November of 2011.

The plea allowed Seim to avoid the mandatory life sentence he would have faced if convicted of First Degree Murder.

Seim is required to serve at least 70 percent of his sentence.

That means he will remain in prison until at least 2049.
