Several spectators, but no bidders at il Spazio sale

The Bank of Kirksville tried to sell the former il Spazio building on the courthouse steps Monday, but no luck.

A Century 21 spokesman, who was at the foreclosure sale, told KTVO there were several parties present at the auction, but no one bid on the building.

We were told the starting big was to be $105,000.

The Adair County Recorder's Office said the bank "took back the building."

The Bank of Kirksville foreclosed on restaurant owner Jeff Newton after he was unable to keep up the loan payments.

Newton blames the economic downturn that hit in 2007 for decreasing sales and forcing him out of business.

Il Spazio has been closed since the middle of 2010.

The Bank of Kirksville did not return KTVO TMs phone calls inquiring about future plans for the building.
