Shop Small Business Saturday drives people to shop local
After the craziness of Black Friday, residents went to stores Saturday to support locally owned businesses as part of Shop Small Business Saturday.
In Kirksville at a few stores around the downtown square, there were good crowds as many merchants offered special sales and discounts.
The community was invited to shop at favorite local stores, restaurants and businesses to help support and boost the local economy by keeping the money right here in the area.
"It helps. We spend money locally as often as we can and I know other small businesses do too. It just helps our community continue being the cultural hub of northeast Missouri," said Keith Jackson, owner of Blink of an Eye.
With the success of Shop Small Business Saturday, many business owners are hoping that this is just the start of a great holiday shopping season ahead as shoppers head out to find that personal and special gift for family and friends.
Local businesses will be having extended hours from now until Christmas. Many will also be open on Sundays.
