Southeast Iowa restaurant makes top 10 list for best burger in Iowa

Pictured here is First Street Grille's most popular burger, the Rodeo Burger

Iowaâ??s Best Burger Contest received over 6,000 nominations for around 350 restaurants. And one southeast Iowa restaurant made the top 10 list.

Step inside First Street Grille in Keosauqua and you will not only find friendly people, a laid back atmosphere but now youâ??ll find one of the best burgers in Iowa.

First Street Grille, along with nine other restaurants spread across Iowa, found out last week that they had been nominated for having the best burger in the state of Iowa by the Iowa Beef Industry Council and Iowa Cattlemanâ??s Association.

Owner Holly Boyd has been serving up her famous burgers since 2009.

â??When I first opened I wanted to do the eight ounce burger because I wanted a good thick, juicy burger that nobody else around here had. I can remember when we first opened we actually had people say â??you know, your burgers are just, theyâ??re just too thick.â?? Thatâ??s what I pride ourselves in is the fact that our burgers are â?? I would much rather somebody not being able to eat all their food you know eat it all and wish they had more,â?? said Boyd.

And for less than $10, you can try one of Iowaâ??s best burgers.

â??Probably our most popular burger is our Rodeo Burger. We sell as lot of those. They actually have â?? we have a gourmet bun, and we have barbeque sauce on the top of the bun. Itâ??s an eight ounce 100% beef patty. Itâ??s got white cheese and Texas toothpicks and bacon, so itâ??s a little sloppy and very good. We get tons of compliments on it. We have a group of guys that Iâ??m going to say probably come in three times a week and order the same burger every time,â?? said Boyd.

And First Street Grille has some very loyal customers that keep coming back for those famous burgers.

â??Theyâ??re juicy, the meat is very juicy ok and of course you know when you put all the sauces on it and lettuce, tomato, whatever you want -- it just makes the burger the much more better,â?? said Margie Stansberry, Customer.

The top 10 restaurants will be visited by a secret panel of judges on an undisclosed date that will evaluate the burgers on taste, appearance and proper serving temperature.

First Street Grilleâ??s menu also boasts a lot of variety â?? everything from rib-eye steaks to seafood.

First Street Grille opens at 11 a.m. daily. For more information about First Street Grille and its full menu, click here.
