The Missouri State Highway Patrol is upping its effort to keep the roads safe this Labor Day weekend.
Sgt. Brent Bernhardt wants to encourage drivers to keep their focus solely on the road this Labor Day weekend.
â??The Missouri State Highway Patrol is going to be participating in a couple of different enforcement programs over the Labor Day holiday period. We will be participating in Operation Care which will begin on Friday and conclude on Monday,â?? Sgt. Bernhardt said.
Last year there were eight deaths and more than four hundred injuries on Missouri highways during the Labor Day holiday period.
Bernhardt is asking that drivers have a safe ride home if they plan on drinking alcohol and to stay off their phones while they drive.
In addition to the added highway patrol, waterways will also be patrolled to ensure safe boating.
