Staying safe while out on the water

      Missouri Boating Laws

      --PFD's (personal floatation devices) enough for each person on board the watercraft or vessel. (should be size appropriate)

      -- all children under 7 years of age must be wearing a pfd on-board any vessel

      --prepare boat before heading out to the water (make sure boat is water ready)

      -battery(s) fully charged

      -drain plug attached

      -- make sure all safety equipment is on-board

      - throwable floatation device (seat cushion)

      - fire extinguisher

      - horn working or whistle available

      - if operated at night make sure lights are working (red left side front-port & green right side front starboard) white light on rear to be seen all around

      - if operating an inboard system must have blower

      --registration must be kept in vessel

      -- must be at least 14 years of age to operate boat

      -- if born after January 1, 1984 all boat operators must have boater ID card-

      --always good to have a "float plan"

      Watch weather. If a storm looks to be evident, return to dock or boat ramp
