UPDATE: Stinson hearing delayed

The Ottumwa Christian School board will have to wait until this summer to find out how they are going to be recoup nearly $150,000.

The restitution hearing for Joni Stinson, which was scheduled for Monday afternoon, was delayed until June.

Stinson was scheduled to be in court for her restitution hearing Monday afternoon, but attorneys for both parties agreed to delay the hearing.

Court documents state Stinson began stealing from the private institution in 2010 by writing and cashing nearly 230 checks from the school board’s accounts.

In September of 2017, Stinson pleaded guilty to stealing more than $150,000 from Ottumwa Christian School.

As part of her plea deal, Stinson received a 10 year suspended sentence and is required to repay the stolen funds.

She made a $50,000 payment to the school at the time of her guilty plea.

The Ottumwa woman who admitted stealing thousands of dollars from a local school will be in court again this week.

In September, Stinson pleaded guilty to stealing more than $150,000 dollars from the Ottumwa Christian School

As part of the deal, Stinson received a ten year suspended prison sentence and was required to re-pay the money.

She made a $50,000 dollar payment at the time of her guilty plea.

This morning's hearing is to determine how she will pay the rest of the money back.

According to court documents, Stinson stole over $160,000 from the private school beginning in 2010.

During that time, she allegedly wrote and cashed 230 checks from Ottumwa Christian school board accounts.
