The annual Stockport Lions BBQ Days is the event of the weekend in the small Southeast Iowa town.
Kicking off Friday night with a truck pull and softball tournament, the festivities continued on Saturday with a parade, car show, BBQ lunch and tractor pull. Organizers planned plenty of activities for the kids as well, including a pedal pull on Main Street and games in the Christian Church yard. Voting for the people's choice award at the car show began at noon, and nearly 30 participants had their cars on display. Lion's club members say this is the 63rd year the town has held Stockport BBQ Days.
â??The Lions basically are doing everything, sponsoring the event,â?? member Jeff Wetherall said. â??We had other sponsors, but they're basically doing everything for the lions themselves and we contribute back to the community, and to the state and to the national level.â??
The festivities wrapped up Saturday evening, and a community church service was held at 10 a.m. Sunday.
