Students learn about good oral hygiene

Friday at the Macon Elementary School students attended a presentation called Land of Smiles presented by Delta Dental.

Telling your child to brush their teeth probably goes in one ear and out the other, but when it's the "Tooth Wizard" telling them...they may just listen. Friday at the Macon Elementary School Delta Dental presented "Land of Smiles" so students could learn about dental hygiene.

During the presentation the Tooth Wizard told students how to brush their mouths properly, everything including their gums and tongue. They also emphasized the importance of flossing and using mouth wash. According to Delta Dental tooth decay is the leading chronic infectious disease among children in our nation.

The main goal of the presentation was to educate and inspire young Missourians.

â??The students are always good about already knowing so many things and this is such a good reinforcement to get them excited about dental hygiene,â?? said â??Plaque Manâ?? Cliff Turner.

By the end of the school year the Land of Smiles casts will reach more than 65,000 students at more than 320 schools across Missouri.
