The Putnam County native hired to be the new superintendent of the South Shelby R-IV School District in Shelbina has submitted his resignation at the request of the school board.
The board unanimously accepted the resignation of Michael â??Mikeâ?? Rennells, 34, of Grant City, Missouri, Thursday evening during an emergency meeting.
The former principal from Green City High School and Schuyler County High School is accused of stealing from the Worth County School District where he is currently superintendent.
Rennells faces stealing and forgery charges in the case.
The South Shelby School Board also voted to withdraw its contract offer to Rennells' wife, LaCosta, to be a 6th-grade middle school teacher.
Our friends at centralmoinfo.com report that the school board met in closed session for more than two hours Thursday night to discuss where to go from here, but members did not come up with a timeline for hiring a new superintendent.
