Surveillance cameras catch pair allegedly using stolen checks
When you write checks that don't belong to you, it will probably land you in jail.
Thatâ??s what a pair of Kirksville residents have discovered.
Billy Payton, 36, and Whitney Wilk, 33, are each charged with three counts of forgery. They are being held in the Adair County Jail on $25,000 cash only bond each.
According to court papers, an Adair County resident called authorities when he was contacted by his credit card company concerning some credit card checks that were written on his account at a Novinger business.
Surveillance tapes allegedly showed the two making a purchase with one of the stolen checks at the business.
Two other checks, apparently stolen from a second victim, were used for purchases at a Kirksville business.
No court date has yet been set for either of the suspects.
