Suspect says 'I was owed the money'

Julia Connelly charged with financial exploitation of the elderly

A Kirksville woman is in custody, accused of writing checks illegally on another account.

Julia Connelly, 40, is charged with financial exploitation of the elderly. She is being held in the Adair County jail under $50,000 cash only bond.

According to court papers, Connelly wrote several checks, totaling over $1,100 on the victimâ??s account. Some of the checks Connelly wrote to herself.

Connelly told authorities she felt she was owed the money for bills she paid at the victimâ??s residence. However, she was unable to produce any of the bills.
