SUV goes airborne after driver falls asleep
KAHOKA, Mo. —
A northeast Missouri passenger was badly hurt when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and wrecked.
The one-vehicle crash happened at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 136 two miles east of Kahoka, Missouri.
Troopers said Joseph Selmon, 24, of Kahoka, fell asleep while driving.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said his SUV veered off the right side of the highway, struck an embankment and went airborne.
The vehicle then overturned and came to rest on a fence.
Selmon suffered minor injuries.
His passenger, Heather Scigliano, 25, also of Kahoka, suffered serious injuries. She was flown to a Quincy, Illinois, hospital for treatment.
Selmon was taken to a Keokuk hospital.
Both people were wearing their seat belt.
