Techel to remain in jail awaiting third trial

Seth Techel in court during his second trial

A Wapello County man will remain in jail while he awaits his third murder trial.

In February, Seth Techelâ??s defense appealed a district court ruling that kept his bond at $750,000 cash only.

Online court records indicate the Iowa Supreme Court upheld that ruling last week.

So for now, unless he can post the three quarters of a million dollars bond, Techel will remain in custody.

Techelâ??s third trial is scheduled for a Scott County courtroom in July.

His first two trials ended in hung juries.

Techel was arrested in May 2012 for the murder of his wife Lisa Caldwell -Techel and the coupleâ??s unborn child.

The courtâ??s ruling means that by the time his third trial rolls around, Techel will have spent over two years in jail.
