A snow ordinance for the city went into effect at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The small town only has two snow plows to clean up the streets after a major snowfall, so it can take an estimated nine hours for the Public Works Department to get the roads plowed. Crews first focus on cleaning up the main roads and snow routes, which see the most traffic throughout the day, and they only plow snow on roads within the city limits.
??Our guys won't start moving snow until there's about 2-3 inches of snow,?? City Clerk Carrie Teninty said, ??so we have two members, actually we have one member on staff right now, and we have somebody helping fill-in for snow removal.??
Until the snow ordinance has been lifted, no parking will be allowed on designated snow routes, which are posted with signage. Vehicles parked out of compliance with the ordinance are subject to being towed and impounded.
