The last minute rush to get gifts delivered
It's the day before Christmas and post offices across the Heartland were busy making last minute deliveries.
From the crack of the dawn until noon Tuesday, the clerks and mail carriers in Kirksville were working to make sure last minute Christmas gifts and cards got to their final destination.
Last week was the busiest week for the post office with Kirksville mail carriers making about 20,000 deliveries.
Postmaster Greg Steiner said the success of this year wouldn't be possible without his hard working team.
"The employees are the ones who made it successful. I had a clerk last week on Monday, busiest mailing day of the year, she made cookies and bought them for the customers and the carriers were out in the weather or out after dark. They're the ones who do all the work and deserve all the credit," Steiner said.
Steiner says this year was a lot busier in the post office than last year.
The U.S. Postal Service will be off from doing mail delieveries Wednesday due to the Christmas holiday but will resume regular operations on Thursday.
