Fair week is in full swing throughout the Heartland.
The 67th Annual NEMO Fair held its opening ceremonies Monday morning. Things started off with the singing of our national anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and a flag raising. Kirksville Mayor Glen Moritz welcomed fairgoers with some opening remarks, and the newly crowned NEMO Pageant winners put a smile on everyone??s faces. It was followed by a devotional, prayer and the introduction of this year??s fair planning committee.
??We get the community together and we kick off the fair,?? said NEMO Fair Board President Alan Whittom. ??It brings a lot of dollars to the town. It gives the kids a chance to show off all their hard work throughout the year. We get to have some great music, demolition derby, tractor pull and bull buck-out. It??s just a great week for everyone.??
The ceremonial ribbon cutting made everything official. Organizers expect anywhere from 7,000 to 10,000 people to visit the fair each day. The fair runs until Saturday, July 19. For a list of all performers, events and ticket information, visit www.nemofair.net.
