The Salvation Army provides temporary shelter for eligible citizens

The Kirksville Salvation Army partners with the Kirksville Police Department to provide a service for those in need of temporary living arrangements.

With harsh winter conditions upon us, many people without homes are in need of a warm place to stay. Lieutenant Brian Bump, with the local Salvation Army, tells KTVO that his organization has teamed up with the police department to provide hotel rooms for need-based citizens.

Many of the citizens granted these services have lost their homes in fires or other weather-related disasters.

â??There have been people call and say hey we had a pipe burst, can you help us with a place to stay and we usually help out with that, but we do have people call and say hey my friend kicked me out or I got kicked out of this place and usually those aren't an emergency,â?? said Bump.

Bump also said the local Salvation Army is considering providing warming stations for families in the future.
