Small Business Saturday is a national movement encouraging people to shop at local small businesses on the Saturday following Black Friday. Multiple companies have different program options and deals depending on location. Companies like American Express have advertised the initiative and gained it much popularity.
The Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kirksville Downtown Improvement Committee are responsible for incorporating the idea locally.
â??We're expecting it to be another good day for us tomorrow. All the small businesses and the Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kirksville Downtown Improvement Committee would just like to encourage everyone to come down and shop your local small businesses, especially tomorrow on Small Business Saturday,â?? says local business owner Keith Jackson.
Federal statistics show that small businesses impact the state's economy making up over 95% of Missouriâ??s employers. Those employers hire about half of the state's non-governmental workforce.
